"The artist has controlled use of her media. It's refreshing to
see the skilled hand in a simple still-life as well as showing off the
free flowing quality of the watercolor in a beautiful abstraction,
lending itself to the imagery of a landscape."

Painting
I have been
creating art for several decades.
My purpose in life is
to find the positive aspects, the beauty surrounding us and to convey my
interpretations with visual expressions.
Painting allows me to
explore various aesthetic disciplines concerning composition, color texture and
design. I find it most interesting in abstracting recognizable subject matter,
usually eliminating it all together. The spontaneity which happens in the act of
painting is what fascinates me, allowing evidence of the artist’s hand to be
ever present.
I have been
influenced by modern painters such as: Kandinsky, van Gogh, Rothko, Motherwell
and Louis.
Essentially, it’s all
about color. In my paintings I use large areas of color to form basic
composition. I utilize both geometric and organic shapes. Juxtaposition of
various colors, the edges, choppy brushstrokes and textural qualities provide
lots of interesting information to keep the viewers attention.
My goal is to evoke
good feelings when you see my work.

Ceramics
I fell in love with clay as a
child, while spending my summers at Interlochen, Michigan. When earning
my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts Degree, I continued explorations of the ceramic
medium. The spontaneity of forming clay, with evidence of the artist’s
hand ever present has always been fascinating to me. But I majored in
painting and sculpture, to study more intensely about shapes, forms and
color theory. My dream is to be able to incorporate what I know about
sculpture and painting, and apply this aesthetic to my ceramics works; it
is the ultimate challenge to combine all these different disciplines.
Today, I find myself being
absorbed more and more into nature. The water, the light and wildlife
surrounding me, have inspired me to use their colors and shapes, which are
echoed in my work. My patinas of choice are reminiscent of metals from
antiquity. My glazing juxtapositions remind me of small, abstract
landscapes of my travels throughout the world.
It is the magic in the kiln;
the heat of the fire, combined with the earth’s materials to create
permanent forms, shapes, colors, compositions and textures, which interest
me the most.
